Many products used in leather aftertreatment can be hand painted or sprayed, generally used in the case of spraying, the product needs to be diluted to avoid blocking the spray gun.
When choosing a diluted product, many customers have questions of one kind or another: "Since your product is water-based, can I directly dilute it with water?" "Why am I using thinner one minute and penetrant the next?" Today, let's discuss how to choose.
Some questions about thinners and penetrants:
1. What is a thinner?
The main components of the diluent are organic solvents or water, etc., whose role is to reduce the viscosity of the product and facilitate the spraying of the product. But it needs to be selected based on product performance.
2. Can water-based leather chemical products be diluted directly with water?
This is the question most frequently asked by clients. Since the water-based leather chemical industry belongs to the water-based system, can it be diluted directly with water? In theory, it is possible to add water to water-based leather chemicals, but this water is not ordinary tap water, but pure water without any impurities.
Although the addition of pure water has played a role in dilution, due to the increase in the proportion of water in the product, it will lead to changes in the performance of the product, such as reduced solid content, poor leveling, and poor storage stability.
3. What is penetrant?
As the name suggests, the function of the penetrant is to help the product penetrate. Its main components are surfactants and other additives, which can improve the wetting of the product to the leather, help the product penetrate, and improve the adhesion of the product to the leather. Especially for leather with poor absorption, the effect of adding penetrant to the product is obvious.
4. Can alcohol be used as a penetrant?
Many operations will directly take alcohol as a penetrant, although alcohol is convenient and affordable, but this is not recommended. Because alcohol will change the molecular particle size of the product, while removing the oil on the leather surface, resulting in poor leather feel. In some cases, it can even cause the leather to burst.
Of course, penetrants can also play a diluent function in some cases, so why sometimes the master will recommend the use of diluents, and sometimes will recommend the use of penetrants? This is mainly due to price considerations, the price of the penetrant is more expensive than the diluent, if it is simply for diluent product demand, the diluent is generally used. Penetrants are used only in certain circumstances.
After considering all the above factors, LUCKY POWER launched a permeable thinner LP-ST118, which strikes a balance between the cost and performance of the product.
In spraying applications, adding to water-based leather products can help open the pores of the leather surface, so that the product can penetrate into the leather faster, in addition to increasing the adhesive force of the leather, the spray shows a natural transparent texture from the inside out.
